> In late September two Golden Retriever siblings in Sandwich, Massachusetts on Cape Cod went for a swim.
>
> Afterwards, their owner tied their leashes together and left them out in the yard to dry off. Somehow, the dogs -- Baxter and Bailey -- managed to slip off their leashes and out of the yard. They disappeared.
>
> Their mom, Penny Blackwell, was devastated. _"It was horrible,"_ she told the Cape Cod Times. _"The worst thing was not knowing if they were alive. It's one thing to have a dog die. But to have them gone and not know, it was just awful."_
>
> Blackwell did everything possible to find her beloved dogs, including putting up flyers around her community and asking for help through Facebook. She heard nothing for almost two weeks.
## Baxter Reappears
> The heartbroken dog owner was beginning to lose hope when she received a text message from friends saying they found one of the dogs near their home. When Blackwell got Baxter back, he couldn't seem to settle down. So she returned with him to the area where he'd been found, and he began pulling her into a wooded area.
>
> _"Baxter kind of led me off the side through the woods,"_ Blackwell told CBS. _"I had twigs in my eyes and leaves in my hair."_ Incredibly, Baxter was leading his mom right to Bailey, whose leash was tangled in the brush.
>
> _"I could hardly get him untied because he was jumping on me and jumping all over Baxter, so happy to see us,"_ Blackwell said.
## A Bit Skinnier, But Otherwise Fine
> Both dogs were considerably lighter after two weeks in the woods on their own. Baxter lost 8 pounds and Bailey dropped 10. But other than the weight loss, the dogs appeared healthy and happy.
>
> Needless to say, Blackwell was thrilled and grateful to have her golden boys back home. _"It's mind-boggling to think they could be there for nearly two weeks and come through it," _she said.
